I had facilitated the reunion between President MackySall and MmeAminata Touré, after the noise following her sacking, in November 2020, from the chairmanship of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE).There can be no question of revealing the vicissitudes and the content of the discussions, unless authorised to do so by the protagonists who would like to satisfy a duty of truth and transparency. However, I cannot remain silent in the face of serious accusations that Mimi Touré has made against the President of the Republic and his wife.In a letter, dated September 15, 2022, addressed to the Head of State and which she took care to make public, MmeAminata Touré warns about a project of «actions of physical neutralisation » concocted against her person by «elements close to the entourage of the President of the Republic and the first lady who would consider physically attacking her so that the substitute entitled to sit can replace her definitively in the National Assembly»It is sad that Mimi Touré is using the same methods as Abdoul MbayeOne cannot fail to have a lump in one’s throat, rereading some of Mimi Touré’s posts. To express her wrath because she was not chosen by President MackySall for the post of President of the National Assembly, she is now seeking to do the most harm, by personalising the political debate and especially by adopting the scorched earth strategy.Mimi Touré pours into invective, and does exactly what she reproached with harshness and vehemence of her predecessor as Prime Minister, AbdoulMbaye. The simple fact that of all the Senegalese politicians, both in power and in the opposition, Mimi Touré finds only the only person of AbdoulMbaye to give her public support in this new crusade against MackySall, should make her measure her misdirection. We may want to be amnesiac but we can still remember the fracas of the passing of the baton between these two people.Similarly, what had Mimi Touré spared AbdoulMbaye when he requested the protection of the Embassy of France (his other homeland) in Dakar when he felt he feared for his life because he had been the victim of a burglary at his home?Precisely, what is this ease with which we lend each time to the political power the sinister plan of seeking to assassinate opponents without ever filing a complaint, let alone providing the slightest evidence? It has become an old tune that anyone who disagrees with the political power declares that he is in the line of fire of death squads when not once has anyone been killed or injured!Mimi Touré, AbdoulMbaye, MankeurNdiaye, OusmaneSonko, MamadouLamineDiallo, KhalifaAbabacarSall, BarthélémyDias, SerigneMoustaphaSy, CheikhOumarDiagne, Imam AliouneNdao, journalists, trade unionists among others, would all fear for their lives. The height of cowardice, the « human rightist » Alioune Tine, to get out of a debate on twitter with me, claimed to base this on an outing of the minister CheikhOumar Anne who accused him of being politically partisan, to claim how he feared for his life. With a disappointed smile, we remember the noisy escape of Alioune Tine in 2012 to save himself from the death squads of the « dictator » Abdoulaye Wade.He sought refuge with the « great democrat» Blaise Compaoré!A quickly forgotten episode. We end up trivialising all the impostures.Like that of those many academics who twisted the neck of all the principles of law to defend, like neutral experts, partisan causes and who ended up being co-opted into the new political directorate of OusmaneSonko’s PASTEF party. We were not mistaken when we highlighted in these columns « The manifesto of the 102 impostures » (March 01, 2021) to respond to a group of academics who published a pamphlet to castigate the state of democracy in Senegal.Mimi’s Other Non-Conventional WeaponsIf she judges by the many « likes » and other « loves » that flourish on social networks, Mimi Touré can believe that she has the wind in her sails. She would be wrong. Those who encourage her in this way are those who consider that anything that would displease MackySall would please them. This cannot be a political objective. We told her the same thing, on July 7, 2014, in a paper entitled: « Duty of truth between friends, » when she went down the same path, after being dismissed from the post of Prime Minister.Mimi makes rash punches just to stir the knife in the wound. She wants to fight against nepotism relating to ties of kinship with the President of the Republic.Jurists will appreciate the relevance or adequacy or conformity of such an approach with the fundamental principles of the Republic. What remains is that we can wonder if Mimi Touré still has her whole head. When she was campaigning in 2019 for the re-election of MackySall, didn’t she know that the President of the Republic had already appointed his own brother AliouSall to a public position?Even better, on the appointment of AliouSall to the Deposits and Consignments Fund, on July 29, 2017, she firmly said on the microphone of the RFM: « it is the President of the Republic who appoints to civil and military functions, period!« .Didn’t she also knows that Mansour Faye, the first lady’s brother, had been in business since 2012?However, Aminata Touré campaigned in Saint-Louis, in 2019 and in the legislative elections of July 2022 alongside the same Mansour Faye.On this last occasion, she praised the achievements in the city of Saint-Louis as well as good governance and mocked the opposition telling them: « With oil and gas, we will not give our country’s wealth to amateurs. »We can then imply that at the time, Mansour Faye did not appear as an « amateur » in the eyes of Mimi Touré?What about Amadou MameDiop that President MackySall preferred for the Chair?Mimi Touré had campaigned alongside him in Richard-Toll and it didn’t seem to bother her in the slightest.Michel Poniatowski‘s apostrophe to former minister Françoise Giroud comes to mind: « When you have tasted the soup for so long, it is strange to find a bitter taste in the end. »Similarly, Mimi Touré insists on the purported intention of President MackySall to declare himself a candidate for the presidential election of 2024 and that this justifies him not wanting her at the head of the National Assembly. The argument appears specious because we do not know how a president of the National Assembly could prevent such a political project. Also, in front of people who could work MackySall‘s ear in favour of their own interests, Mimi Touré never showed opposition to the idea put forward of a new candidacy of MackySall.Maybe the idea was premature or Mimi hid her acting well like « Maisy Mouse », the famous character of Lucy Cousins.I continue to believe that Mimi Touré is better than this posture that she persistently portraysMimi Touré is working against herself and has laid a bouquet of chrysanthemums on her political career. She chose to keep her mandate as a member and leave the BennoBokkYaakaar parliamentary group. She is free to do so, but should she, as she announces, a systematic use of her mandate against the political camp that allowed her to obtain it?She would not derive any glory from a forced forfeiture of her mandate, especially given that she is aware that many members of the opposition would be happy to satisfy a certain little revenge or to settle old scores. It is astonishing and unusual that not a single member of the majority she claims to embody in the National Assembly followed her in her rebellion.Placed in the same circumstances in 2008, MackySall returned to President Wade all the elective mandates obtained under the banner of the Senegalese Democratic Party (Pds) and even managed to lead in his departure from other members of the majority. In the register of ethical principles, Mimi should not do less than the one she is attacking! In addition, one may well wonder if the claims of Mimi Touré would be more legitimate in front of the low profile of an AlyNgouilleNdiaye, an OumarYoum or an AbdoulayeDaoudaDiallo or other political leaders who can boast of regularly wins in their fiefdoms? However, the saddest thing for anyone who wants to continue to have huge regards for Mimi Touré is to see her throw herself into the jaws of the wolf.We can well imagine that many of her fellow MPs will make life hard for her in the spans of the National Assembly. She will wipe green and ripe swipes, they will offend her, provoke her, disrespect her, at the risk of her putting on a show and seriously dent her image. We can even believe that by not choosing Mimi Touré for the presidency of the National Assembly, MackySall sought to save Mimi Touré a certain disappointment, not to say the humiliation of seeing members from his own camp vote for another candidate. The snub and the political consequences could not be acceptable to President Sall‘s camp. Was it necessary for President Sall to take such a risk with a majority that had become so volatile?Certainly, no!Moreover, frankly in her current position and given the circumstances and especially her stature and her career, Mimi Touré deserves better than to have to cross swords, at each parliamentary session, with MameDiarra Fam, CouraMacky, Guy Marius Sagna among others. No, she is no longer in her place in this National Assembly and should give up her mandate. If I had one piece of friendly advice to give her, it would be this one!By Madiambal DIAGNE / mdiagne@lequotidien.sn
