– From Touba to Kaffrine, many zones in the waters

These past hours, there has been a succession of heavy rains in many towns, reviving fear amongst the populations.

The weather forecast had predicted a downpour that would drench the whole country: almost every region received heavy rain this Thursday. In Touba, flooding is back after rain fell on the town between Wednesday and Thursday, particularly in neighbourhoods of Darou Khoudoss, Ndamatou, Darou Miname, Sourah and Guédé, and in the houses surrounding Touba-Mosquée. In Kaffrine, two neighbourhoods were inundated by rainwater: Diamaguène Centre and Kaffrine 2 were flooded following heavy rains on Wednesday night. As a result of last night’s heavy rains, the Kaffrine 2 reservoir overflowed and spilled into the houses in the district, forcing local mechanics to suspend their activities.

From Touba to Kaffrine, water everywhere

Several public squares in Kaffrine have become inaccessible. This is the case for the square opposite the regional administrative centre, notes Aps. Some of the town’s roads are impassable due to rainwater. The fire brigade has mobilised to evacuate the rainwater. Anacim had forecasted that during the day on Thursday, the rainstorms would affect the western and southern regions in particular, with extensions to the centre. During the night, it forecast the arrival of thunderstorms and rain accompanied by winds in the regions of Kaolack, Diourbel, Fatick, Thiès, Dakar, Saint-Louis and also in the city of Touba.
