The first hundred days of the Diomaye-Sonko duo at the head of the country have been far from a success. At least that’s the view of the president of the Gueum Sa Bopp movement « The Jambaars ». Bougane Guèye Dany is calling on President Diomaye Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko to put an end to the tragedy of irregular migration following the deaths of nearly a hundred of our young compatriots at sea.

Bougane Guèye Dany holds a grudge against the Prime Minister for his « silence » in the face of the July 1 migrant tragedy. « Sonko’s silence on the July 1 migrant tragedy is proof of failure and a symbol of the despair of brave young Senegalese, particularly street vendors« , said Bougane Guèye Dany. However, the head of government, Ousmane Sonko, issued a message to young people at Gaston Berger University, encouraging them to stay in their country and develop economically.

98 dead in shipwreck: Barsakh continues

The figures are overwhelming. « 100 young Senegalese perish at sea! It’s more than a tragedy! Diomaye and Sonko must act to stop this haemorrhage« , demanded the leader of the « Jambaars ». This tragic observation is accompanied by an urgent call for action to prevent such disasters from happening again. The situation of families, women and children plunged into misery, living in precarious conditions, is also highlighted. « Added to the blood of the young will be the tears of women and children living in rainwater that has swallowed up the promises of a bunch of taxmen more inclined to racket the Senegalese private sector than to heal the ills of a swindled people », he continues. Bougane Guèye Dany’s press release concludes with a warning. « Fenn dou péxé… ». (Lying is not a solution).

« The illusory project gives way to increased misery ».

Exactly 100 days ago, on 2 April, Bassirou Diomaye Faye became the fifth President of the Republic of Senegal, marking the start of a new political era alongside his Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko. But the start to his term of office, often described as a period of grace, soon gave way to harsh criticism. Bougane Guèye Dany, leader of the Gueum Sa Bopp movement « The Jambaars », gives a gloomy assessment of this period. « The illusory project has given way to increased and widespread misery« , wrote the leader of Gueum Sa Bopp.

Bougane Guèye Dany believes that the promises made during the electoral campaign last March seem to have disappeared under the weight of the reality of power. The Prime Minister’s visit to Saint-Louis was also criticised by Bougane Guéye Dany, who points the finger at an initiative that failed from the outset, saying that “the PM, travelling to Saint-Louis for a concept that has failed since its inception, did not deign to salute the memory of these young people, who gave their blood for the triumph of democracy against the dictatorship of Macky Sall. Inhumane! Unacceptable!
