Despite her advanced age and reduced mobility, former President Macky Sall’s mother-in-law is due to be questioned by the gendarmerie, along with her son Adama Faye, in a land-related case.

Following the announcement of the decisions taken by the Supreme Council of Magistrates (Csm), everyone has been expecting to see the people who have allegedly been at loggerheads with those in power come before the courts one after the other. For many of these people, it will be at the bar of the Tribunal that they will have to demonstrate their innocence, before their guilt is proven, no doubt.

Le Quotidien

has learnt that even people very close to former President Macky Sall will not be spared. The files of some have already been prepared. This is the case of his mother-in-law, Mme Oumou Diallo. She is also known to be the mother of the former First Lady, Marième Faye Sall. In fact, the Gendarmerie’s Research Section is reportedly preparing to receive the old lady in the very near future. This, despite her very delicate state of health, to say the least.

It is said that when her relatives pointed out to the gendarmes that the old lady was in no physical condition to endure a fairly difficult journey, given her reduced mobility and advanced age, they were told by the gendarmerie that if she was unable to move, a salad basket could be made available to transport her. This was just another way of making it clear that no exceptions would be made, and that the rules would apply to everyone.

President Macky Sall’s mother-in-law is due to be heard in proceedings concerning a land deal. One of her children, Adama Faye, will also be heard in the same case. Although we cannot say when their hearings will take place, we do know that they are likely to be ongoing.

It is a curious coincidence that this case comes at a time when the defamation case between former minister Mansour Faye, also a member of the same family, and former Prime Minister Aminata (Mimi) Touré has just been settled, to the detriment of Mansour Faye. Mimi Touré, who considers herself to be at war with Macky Sall and some of those close to him, did not have a modest victory, even though the courts did not find Mansour Faye guilty of the charges brought against him. It was enough for him to be close to Macky Sall to be presumed guilty. It remains to be seen whether the courts that have just become operational will not start from the same presumption.
