Mimi Touré knew she was disliked by the opposition MPs, who did want her on The Chair. She also knew she was not unanimous in her camp. And she was the first to ask that Macky be given a carte blanche to decide. If she contested this choice, she could have said it the day before yesterday in the Chamber, instead of pouring her bile in tweets.
By M. G. – Mimi Touré’s new revolt met with a strong disapproval on the part of her party comrades, as well as on the part of some parliamentarians of the Benno bokk yaakaar Coalition. They continuously note in Mimi Touré’s attitude, what they consider to be incoherent positions.
Some MPs point out that on Saturday 20 August, when President Macky Sall received parliamentarians at the Banquet Hall of the Palace on Senghor Avenue, « Mimi Touré was the first to take the floor asking her colleagues to give a carte blanche to President Macky Sall for the choice of the President of the Assembly and the members of the Executive. She then indicated that, in the same way that they had trusted her to draw up the list of MPs, the elected representatives should renew this confidence and give him a free hand in this choice ». This position enabled one of Benno’s elected officials to declare: « It can be considered that, once it was agreed to give a carte blanche to the President, any previous promise that the latter might have made to one of us would become null and void. »
Better still, the Seminar of Saly was an opportunity for the elected representatives of Benno, to reiterate their decision to give their leader a clean slate. And methods to secure the vote given their narrow majority were agreed on. To ensure that no Benno vote was lost, they put in a place a system of procurations.
Eight group leaders were appointed, each to supervise a dozen people. Thus, for the group of « Barons of the Party », who all sat in the front row of the Chamber, Farba Ngom was appointed supervisor. They gave him their procurations. And at no time did this seem to be a problem for Mimi Touré. Even when, at the end of the morning, the name of the speaker appointed by Macky began to circulate, Mimi remained zen and smiling. She showed no signs of discontent. It wasn’t until 5 p.m., when she said she wanted to go home, that Mimi allegedly asked Farba Ngom to return her procuration, and the two walked out of the room together. But, she never officially said in the Chamber that she opposed the choice of Amadou Mame Diop.
Moreover, and this is the inconsistency of the lady, if Mimi Touré did not want to vote for Macky’s candidate, she need not have left the session and could have expressed her vote clearly. Because, at that moment, the procuration would not have been effective.
Further, the MPs of Benno believe that Macky removed a big thorn from their foot by not designating Mrs. Touré. « Wallu MPs had assured us that they were willing to support Benno’s candidate, provided it wasn’t Mimi. A position that was also shared by Yaw MPs whom we had approached. All members of our parliamentary group knew this. Even the President was informed. » Macky Sall, in the secret of his actions sought to favor a certain search for appeasement.
But it is Aminata Touré’s turnaround that is now problematic for her party comrades and fellow MPs.
