Lawyer Ciré Clédor Ly, one of Ousmane Sonko’s lawyers, believes that his client continues to observe his hunger strike. This is what caused, in his opinion, health concerns for his client. The black gown speaks of “the beginning of kidney failure”. Politicians and civil society actors are asking Sonko to suspend his diet, because he has « nothing more to prove ».
Lawyer Ciré Clédor Ly reacted to the statement of the Minister of Justice on the semi-hunger strike of Ousmane Sonko. For the black gown, “Ousmane Sonko did not stop the hunger strike. Information to the contrary is misleading. He is more than determined to continue this ordeal, despite the continued deterioration of his health. A statement that takes the opposite view of Ismaïla Madior Fall who confirmed that the mayor of Ziguinchor had breakfast last Saturday. Ismaïla Madior Fall informed that Sonko was admitted to hospital following his request. “The dehydration caused the onset of kidney failure and hypoglycaemia due to his prolonged diet. He persists, however, in asking that all sympathizers or patriot detainees, who are on hunger strike, stop,” added Lawyer Ly.
Sonko asked to stop his hunger strike
In addition, Alioune Tine of Africajom Center, Mamadou Mbodj of F24, Ibrahima Kane of Raddho, Aïda Mbodj of And, Maïmouna Bousso of Citizen Forces, Mamadou Lamine Dianté of Mce, Moustapha Guirassy of Set, Cheikh Tidiane Dièye of Avenir Senegal Bi ñu begg, Ahmed Aïdara, journalist, Serigne Moustapha Guèye from Yarwaye and Malick Gakou of the Grand Parti have published an editorial asking the leader of the dissolved Pastef party to end his hunger strike. « We, Senegalese citizens, Africans and democrats from all over the world, signatories of this appeal, follow, with indignation and regret, the political persecution that you, your party and your allies have suffered stoically for many years and which has taken these last months, totally abject forms. We are also witnesses to your arbitrary and illegal arrest, as well as your unjust placement under a warrant,” they say. For the signatories of this text, Ousmane Sonko chose this path to fight against the « persecution » of which he is the object with members of his party. The text affirms that Sonko has « nothing more to prove to these millions of young people, who have finished making (him) an icon, a reference and a guide in the fight they lead for liberation and emancipation. of their continent.
On the strength of this observation, the signatories therefore ask Ousmane Sonko to put an end to his hunger strike and to call on all his fellow prisoners to do the same. Because young people « like us, need (him) alive, standing, strong, free and determined to raise and win this fight ». « With you by our side, we will remain mobilized and determined to lead the fight for democracy, for the safeguard of the Republic, the restoration of the rule of law and respect for fundamental rights and freedoms, the virtuous governance of our economies, the fair redistribution of the wealth of our nations to all segments of our peoples and the sovereignty of the African peoples,” they say.
