Things are accelerating for the presidential election. After the election date was set for Sunday 24 March 2024, the date for the start of the electoral campaign for the candidates is also known. The nineteen (19) candidates will spend the next two weeks trying to convince their compatriots to vote for them.
Yesterday, the President of the Republic issued decree no. 2024-704, setting the date for the start of the election campaign. The campaign « will be conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Code relating to electoral propaganda » and will begin on Saturday 09 March at midnight. According to the aforementioned text, it will end, on Friday 22 March at midnight.
It won’t just be a matter of going out to the electorate. But also messages will be passed across on the small screen and on the radio. The National Broadcasting Regulatory Council (CNRA) has issued a press release on this subject. In this document, the regulatory body chaired by Babacar Diagne informs that « airtime on public radio and television, made available to candidates in the presidential election of 24 March 2024, is broadcast under the conditions set out in decision n°0001 CNRA/P/DC./rb of 31 January 2024 ». Accordingly, each presidential candidate will be entitled to three (3) minutes of airtime on public radio and television (Rts) to deliver his or her message to the electorate.
