President Faye left Nouakchott yesterday after a brief visit of friendship and work in Mauritania. For BDF, who is in the process of making contact with his neighbours as the new head of state, the meeting with President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani has a special gas odour. Today, the two countries enjoy « such a special relationship », the quality of which has been raised to « an unprecedented level ». It is cemented by the exploitation of the joint gas field known as Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (Gta) and the ongoing construction of the Rosso bridge.

During their one-to-one meeting, the two Heads of State also discussed « issues related » to bilateral cooperation between the « two brotherly countries and ways of developing and strengthening these relations in various fields ». These included, of course, the issue of granting licences to Senegalese fishermen and the management of trade and transport flows. Not forgetting the « political and security situation in the Sahel », shaken by terrorist threats and cross-border crime.

In the end, the two leaders noted « with satisfaction » their complete « i*harmony of views on all the bilateral and multilateral issues » they had discussed. In short, relations between Senegal and Mauritania « are at a very good level » and will continue to develop with « great » intensity. « On my return to Dakar, I would like to thank my brother H.E. Although the signing of the agreements was not made public yesterday, the two leaders, who met privately at the Presidential Palace in Nouakchott and had lunch together, later extended their talks to the ministers for fisheries and the maritime economy, transport, foreign affairs, diplomats and heads of the hydrocarbons sector.
