Resignation of Elected Representatives Who Have Become Ministers: Sonko Leads the Way

Ousmane Sonko has long since resigned as mayor of the commune of Ziguinchor, according to sources. The Prime Minister has referred the matter to the Minister responsible for local authorities, Balla Moussa Fofana.
The administrative authorities in Ziguinchor have acknowledged receipt of Ousmane Sonko’s resignation, which was sent to them by the Minister of Local Government. According to our sources, the latter sent them a second letter instructing them to organize a municipal session to replace Ousmane Sonko.
“In fact, the mayor is not resigning with the municipality, but rather with the Minister of Local Government”, we are told.

Similarly, Cheikh Tidiane Dièye, member of the Ziguinchor Departmental Council, has also reportedly resigned from this post to remain Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation.
As a reminder, these resignations come in the context of the implementation of a measure aimed at putting an end to the accumulation of functions for ministers and MPS. Yesterday, May 5, was the deadline for complying with this measure, which was aimed at government members with an elective mandate.
