An independent judiciary, the promotion of the cult of work and ethics, and putting Senegal resolutely on the path to progress. These are the commitments made to the audience after taking the oath.

« Senegal, under my magistrature, will be a country of hope, a country at peace, with an independent judiciary and a strengthened democracy. This is my promise on the strength of the oath I have just taken before God and the Nation in your presence », declared President Bassirou Diomaye Faye in his speech yesterday after taking the oath. The new President of the Republic is well aware of the heavy task that awaits him. « On 24 March 2024, the Senegalese people voted calmly and serenely, making me the 5th President of the Republic of Senegal in the first round with 54.28% of the valid votes cast… I am aware of the weight of responsibility and the seriousness of the task », said President Diomaye Faye.

The New President’s First Measures: Sonko is Prime Minister

For him, « the results of the ballot box express a profound desire for systemic change ». That is why, through this election, the President of the Republic believes that « the Senegalese people have embarked on the path of building a prosperous and just Senegal, in a progressing Africa ». And in this work of building a new Senegal, « I will work tirelessly to preserve peace and national cohesion », he promised. At the same time, he pledged to preserve the country’s stability and to work with Senegalese, both at home and abroad, « on a unifying national project geared towards a peaceful future ». Diomaye Faye has no intention of stopping there. « I am committed, through the promotion of the cult of hard work, ethical management, discipline and love of country, to setting Senegal firmly and sustainably on the path to economic and social progress.

Swearing-in and Handover of Power: On Bass’ Track

On the African front, the scale of the security challenges and the many challenges we face require us to show greater solidarity. I am clearly committed to the path of the uninhibited elites, who shout loud and clear our common aspiration for greater sovereignty, development and well-being. To my African peers, I reaffirm Senegal’s commitment to strengthening efforts to promote peace, security, stability and African integration. To friendly countries and partners, I reiterate Senegal’s commitment and openness to exchanges that respect our sovereignty, in line with the aspirations of our People in a mutually win-win partnership. »
