In the Council of Ministers yesterday, Macky Sall largely returned to the fight against violence against women and the importance of ensuring their empowerment given the fundamental place they play in political and social life… It was his way of reacting to the latest news related to the attack on MP Amy Ndiaye at the National Assembly last Thursday.Without naming her, given the sacred principle of the separation of powers, President Sall nevertheless did not hide from mentioning the aggression of the deputy Amy NdiayeGniby, assaulted by two MPs of the Party for Unity and Unity (Pur) affiliated with Yewwiaskanwi (Yaw) in the National Assembly. As part of the « Social climate and monitoring of internal affairs » section, MackySall insisted on the « fight against violence against women » by reminding the government of « the fundamental place of women in the political, economic, social and cultural spheres of Senegal ».For him, it is necessary « to take the necessary measures to ensure the application of all the measures taken, since 2012, to fight tirelessly against all forms of violence against women, but also to promote the economic empowerment of women through the various mechanisms and instruments put in place by the State, the Der/Fj in particular”.In the same vein, MackySall invited the Minister for Women, the Family and the Protection of Children to place the next International Women’s Day under the theme of « consolidation of the national commitment against violence against women ».Since December 1st, the political news cycle is about the Amy NdiayeGniby affair, struck by MPs MassataSamb and MamadouNiang. They still could not be found, after the Public Prosecutor’s Office ordered their arrest following a referral from the President of the National Assembly on the minutes, in accordance with the Internal Regulations of the National Assembly in its article 53 paragraph 3.For three days, a manhunt has been launched by the Security Forces to find the two parliamentarians, who have since taken to their heels.Without success…On Monday, Lawyer BaboucarCissé, consul for the parliamentarian, filed a complaint against the two deputies who are members of the parliamentary group Yewwiaskanwi (Yaw), alleged perpetrators of the incriminated facts. They would have decided to sue their colleague for “public insults, violence and assault” and “wilful assault”.The National Assembly was indeed upside down last Thursday.Speaking during the vote on the budget of the Minister of Justice, Mr.Samb had maintained that there is an MP who made discourteous remarks on the guide of Moustarchidines, SerigneMoustaphaSy.The lady Amy NdiayeGniby, who felt indexed, had replied in Wolof by saying: “Ma téyy (I assume).”Taking this answer badly, MassataSamb had reacted energetically: “Ah well!”He left the pulpit towards his colleague and gave her a vulgar nd violent slap.It was one act too many. After this slap, the MP also received a blow in the stomach from the parliamentarian MamadouNiang. And the latter collapsed before throwing a fit.MsNdiaye was then evacuated to the Principal Hospital in Dakar for first aid.MsNdiaye is said to be over two months pregnant; thus things took an even more dramatic turn.By Ousmane SOW
